Turn a problem you lived inside one trade into its back-office software

TutorCruncher · See the business →
Who it’s for
For someone who works in, or next to, a small service trade and can build or commission simple software.
The lesson
TutorCruncher began as the internal tool of a tutoring agency, and the founders sold it to other agencies once they saw the same gap everywhere. The lesson: a narrow trade with repeated admin work (scheduling, invoicing, payroll) can support a niche subscription product if you start from the one job you know best.

Who pays and why

The buyers are owners of tutoring agencies. They match tutors to families, book lessons, collect from clients and pay tutors, usually in spreadsheets or by hand. The product replaces that admin and also handles the money flow (invoices, payments, payroll), which is a task owners cannot easily skip. Price scales with size, from about $30 a month for a start-up agency upward, so a tiny agency can begin cheaply.
