Give one trade a tool built for its worst working conditions

Stone · See the business →
Who it’s for
Someone with experience in a hands-on trade who wants to test a small physical product for that trade, starting with pre-orders.
The lesson
Stone built a notebook for one working group, chefs, whose daily conditions (heat, grease, water, metal benches) ordinary notebooks handle badly, then proved demand through a crowdfunding pre-sale before committing to stock. The transferable lesson is to pick a trade you can reach, solve one concrete annoyance, and get paid before you build.

Who pays and why

Buyers are working chefs, cooks and bakers, plus food lovers who want the same kit. The pain is specific: paper that tears or smears in wet, greasy kitchens and a notebook that slides on steel. The price is modest (the flagship notebook is listed around $22) so a chef can buy it without approval. Businesses also pay: restaurants, drinks brands and food companies order custom-branded notebooks as gifts and merchandise, from 30 units upward.
