Turn a rare visual skill into a niche studio, one local job at a time

SALSO Design · See the business →
Who it’s for
For designers, illustrators or 3D artists who want to sell a distinctive skill to businesses instead of selling hours on freelance marketplaces.
The lesson
The founder started with a narrow, eye-catching skill (optical-illusion 3D art), gave away early work to build a portfolio, and let social media and referrals bring paying clients. A newcomer can copy the order of moves, not the scale: show the work publicly first, then charge for it.

Who pays and why

Buyers want something people stop and photograph. Agencies and brands use illusion art for campaigns and events, private clients for decoration, and investors for museums and theme parks. The value is attention and shareable experiences, which is easier to justify than 'nice design'. The founder says customers often paid for materials directly, so the studio carried little upfront material cost on projects.
