Buy a boring local service and fix its follow-up

Junk B Gone · See the business →
Who it’s for
Someone worried about their job who is willing to do physical, local work and would rather take over a proven small service than invent a new product.
The lesson
The owner did not invent anything: he bought a decades-old junk removal company and, by his own account, nearly doubled it by selling more to property managers and answering enquiries faster. The transferable lesson is that an ordinary local service with recurring commercial customers can be a better start than a new idea.

Who pays and why

Two groups pay. Households pay for one-off jobs: furniture, appliances, garage and estate cleanouts. Property managers, offices, contractors and agents pay for repeat work such as unit turnovers and recurring pickups. The owner says commercial accounts are about 70% of the mix. They want a fast, predictable, fixed-price removal so a unit or site can move on, and they can send many jobs, which a household cannot.
